Kibumba Tented Camp
The largest camp in Virunga Park
The Kibumba Tented Camp is the latest addition of camps inside the Virunga Park.
It is an excellent budget-friendly choice for those who want to experience both the mountain gorillas in Virunga Park and the Nyiragongo volcano.
Kibumba is the largest camp in Virunga Park, with a total capacity of 36 people in 18 tents.
The Kimbumba Camp is the closest to the border crossing from Rwanda in Goma and is also located near the start of the Nyiragongo volcano trail, making it the perfect place to stay for those who want to experience both gorillas and the world’s largest lawa lake. In other words.. A visit to Kibumba will become an unforgettable experience.
Kibumba Tented Camp offers all the luxuries of a classic tented camp: great food, a fully licensed bar, spacious safari tents with comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms with your own warm shower.
In the evenings dinner is provided in one of the two mess-tents and there is also the lounge where you can relax afterwards and share your experience of the day with the others or the newcomers who have yet to start their adventure.
As you might have read on this website, at Congo Safaris, we always try to go twice on a Gorilla trek in two days, to two different Gorilla’s families. Therefore, we suggest you should stay for at least 3 nights in Kibumba.
The first night you will arrive after al long day of travel. The next two days Kibumba will be your base for the Gorilla treks.
From Kibumba you can leave the 4th day to the top of the Nyiragongo Vukaan, where you will find the largest lava in the world! That night you will also sleep on the top of the Nyiragongo Volcano and on day 5 you will descend after breakfast, after which we suggest spending another day or two on the banks of the Kivu Lake!
